Introductory Panel For Master’s And Doctoral Applications

0

On 15 November 2025 SES Foundation and STIP Foundation hosted an interactive information
session at CREA in Amsterdam, dedicated to students who are exploring Master’s and PhD
opportunities in the Netherlands. The event brought together soon to be graduates who are
planning their next academic step and looking for clear and practical guidance.

The program was moderated by Halid Kara, who opened the session by explaining the key
elements involved in choosing a Master’s program. He spoke about connecting personal
interests and career goals, understanding different university profiles and
specialisations, and making informed choices within the Dutch higher education system.
Halid also introduced the Young Academy project, showing how such initiatives can support
young scholars in their development and in building strong academic networks.

From STIP Foundation, Esma gave a focused and encouraging talk on how to find a PhD
position. She discussed different routes into doctoral research, the value of a clear
research interest, and the importance of approaching potential supervisors in a
professional and confident way. Her contribution helped make the path toward a PhD more
concrete and accessible for the audience.

The final talk was given by Dr Sevil, who addressed opportunities after completing a
doctoral project. She highlighted both academic and non academic career paths and showed
how skills gained during a PhD, such as independent research, critical thinking and
project management, can be transferred to many sectors in society.

Throughout the session there was room for questions and informal conversations, allowing
participants to connect directly with the speakers and to reflect on their own plans. The
event offered a realistic and motivating overview of the journey from choosing a Master’s
program to building a career after a PhD in the Netherlands.
