Integration Assessment Study

0

Purpose. This study examines the integration of people who migrated to the Netherlands from Turkey since 2016, across multiple domains. The findings are intended to inform participants, Dutch society at large, and—crucially—municipalities, ministries, and public agencies.

Design and data collection. In collaboration with foundations, associations, and community groups, we recruited volunteer participants and collected data via a 92-item online questionnaire (Google Forms). The study includes both individuals living in reception centres (AZC) and those in independent housing, ensuring broad coverage of living situations.

Analytical framework. The survey instrument was developed and interpreted using the Indicators of Integration framework (Ager & Strang), one of the most established and comprehensive methodologies in this field and widely applied by Dutch ministries and municipalities.

Fieldwork and sample. Data were gathered in July–August 2025. In total, 2,188 respondents completed the survey. Initial analyses commenced on a cleaned subset of 2,100 cases, and dataset curation is ongoing. Over time, additional analyses will be conducted by volunteer scholars affiliated with our foundation, with results shared with the academic community and the public.

Contribution and scale. To our knowledge, this is the largest and most comprehensive empirical study to date on this specific population in the Netherlands.

Initial focus. Given current public debate, our first analyses address the new Integration Act, with the aim of contributing evidence-based arguments to public discourse.

Data access. Researchers who wish to contribute to this project or request access to (parts of) the dataset are invited to contact our foundation.
