Ik Deel Mijn Stem: Promoting Active Citizenship
Stichting SES places active citizenship at the heart of its project Ik Deel Mijn Stem. The initiative encourages individuals to reflect on what it means to be a good neighbour, colleague, and citizen, and how we can contribute together to an inclusive society.
Active citizenship is understood as a balance between rights and responsibilities. Participation, democratic culture, and social engagement are central elements of active citizenship. Being a citizen involves more than simply voting. Critical thinking, awareness of rights, volunteering, and dialogue skills are key components that empower individuals to take part in society.
Aligned with European values such as democracy, human rights, the rule of law, pluralism, and participation culture, the project aims to strengthen mutual understanding and trust through dialogue and volunteer engagement. These practices help reduce prejudice, foster empathy, and expand social networks.
For individuals with a migration background, active citizenship can support integration, social connection, and self-confidence. The project also involves academic perspectives, bridging knowledge and societal impact by connecting research with community engagement.
The project is implemented by Stichting SES with support from Vfonds (Loket D subsidy programme). Through this initiative, SES aims to contribute to a society where participation, dialogue, and inclusiveness are strengthened.
